Let’s Go into Gimp

Hello everyone! Today, we are doing something huge! We are going to explore the wonders of Gimp. Yes, in today’s post, I want to do some editing in Gimp and become more familiar with the software! Okay, let’s get into the post!

Edit:
Okay, I don’t feel that Gimp needs any sort of introduction, being that across its distributions it likely has close to a million users. I think that we can just jump into the editor with a quick sample photo!

We are now in the editor with the first photo that I plan to edit. I think that this photo will be perfect since it will go through a few phases.

I want to layout a few things before starting. I would like to:
– Warm up the highlights (more sunlight vibes)
– Brighten the shadows a bit.
– Make some colour edits!

I’ll start with the colour balance. I am realizing how similar Glimpse is to Gimp. I didn’t realize it was the same menu system. Below I have the edits I did to the colour balance:

Next, I am going to work with the contrast, shadows, and highlights. I will start with the highlight/shadow edit first so that I can see what I want to do or if I want to do anything at all with the contrast!

This created a better contrast already. I do want to quickly see what a bit more contrast would look like as well as some more brightness.

I didn’t end up adding more contrast, but I did brighten things up a bit. I want to remove a bit of the green tone in the shadows, though, so I will get to that next.

That is better! Now, I want the colour temperature adjusted…

Yay! Now, you may not be able to notice, but I just added a little light effect in the screenshot below. Compare it to the screenshot above and you may see it.

If you didn’t see it, maybe look in the top right corner.
Okay, for this photo, I am happy. I’ll export it and be right back!
Here is the photo exported and although this wasn’t an edit involving a lot of change, I hope it was still interesting to see!

That was the edit for today’s post!

Conclusion:
I certainly had hoped to edit 3 or even 5 photos today but, alas, time is not on my side this week. It was super fun to use gimp after so much time away from it! Feel free to follow me for upcoming posts in gimp and more, it would mean the world! Thanks so, so much for reading! I’ll see you next week!
