Hello everyone! Today’s blog post is all about bird photography! If you were following me back in August (2020), the first month of this blog, you might remember my post on Bird Photography 2020. You can consider this to be a sequel post. π In this post I am also going to look at the differences since then after changing camera and using different lenses.
Gear:
In this post I am using my Canon EOS 250d and Canon STM 55-250mm lens. I have not done a post on the 55-250mm STM Lens so please let me know if you want to know more about the lens (I’ll answer any questions in the comments).
Photography:

Here is the first photo for today. I used Google Lens to see what bird this is and it said that it is a Buzzard. Not sure if it is or not, I’m not really a bird expert.
I wanted to talk about the gear a bit. I was looking and comparing this shot to a similar shot from the Nikon and see decreased noise, detail, and more natural colors. I do have to mention that I didn’t edit photos for the other post so that might come into this as well. Here are the two shots side by side:
Nikon Photo Canon Photo
The photos are fairly different as you can see, but I do still prefer the overall photo from the 250d and STM lens.
This next photo is one of a few birds that I had been trying to capture at a nearby park.

Not entirely sure what this bird is and couldn’t quite get it on Google Lens, so I’d love to know in the comments. π
I wanted to end this blog post with some photos of ducks. π

Now that I have all the photos above, I want to talk a bit more about the quality change in these photos.
Colors
In my opinion, all the shots directly from the camera on my 250d have more natural colors whereas the p900 seems to have very saturated colors. I definitely prefer less saturation in photos.
Clarity
The 250d has much more detail in the shots than the p900. It helps that the 250d can have different lenses that are made for specific photos.
Those are the two main areas where I found that the photos shined more than the last bird photography post.
Sorry for the short post this week, last week’s post took a ton of time and I ended up with very little time to make this post. I would love to know your thoughts about the photos in the comments! Also, you already know to like and follow too. π

Hi there would you mind stating which blog platform
you’re using? I’m looking to start my own blog soon but I’m having a hard time deciding between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal.
The reason I ask is because your design and style seems different
then most blogs and I’m looking for something unique.
P.S Sorry for being off-topic but I had to ask!

Hi, i’m sorry for a late response! I use
wordpress.com for everything. I love wordpress because it helps push your content to people who are interested on the WP discover page. Also, I personally like the block editor since you only need to know a little code. I hope that this helps! π

Hello there! This is kind of off topic but I need some guidance from an established blog. Is it difficult to set up your own blog? I’m not very techincal but I can figure things out pretty fast. I’m thinking about making my own but I’m not sure where to start. Do you have any points or suggestions? With thanks

Hi! A quick answer is it can take a few months to fully set up a blog. For the technical side of things, I had no web coding experience and just did research for what I needed to know. I have a few suggestions for you…
Tip #1: host your blog on WordPress, it is an awesome platform designed to help people find your blog
Tip #2: if you are stressing too much over SEO, Writing, or Promoting on your blog; take a break, you can always come back a bit later in the day to work.
Tip #3: pick your posting schedule early on. I posted every day for a week when I opened my blog so that people would have posts to read; I slowed down posting to once a week and have not missed a week. By posting once a week, I can focus on quality, reserve time to work on SEO, and post on social media.
I hope that this helps! Please reach out over email if you need more pointers!:

Wonderful blog! Do you have any recommendations for aspiring writers? I’m hoping to start my own site soon but I’m a little lost on everything. Would you recommend starting with a free platform like WordPress or go for a paid option? There are so many options out there that I’m totally overwhelmed .. Any recommendations? Cheers!

Hey! Thank you for commenting! I personally think that setting up a blog and deciding on where to host it really depends on what type of blog you are writing and how fast you want to grow. I would recommend WordPress.com for the free plan. I am still using the free plan as of now, but will be upgrading soon. If you want to grow faster, you might want to go with a paid plan and for that I think that I would still recommend WordPress. The difference here is, once you upgrade to a paid plan, you can decide whether you pay for WordPress.com or WordPress.org hosts your site. Both hosting options are slightly different and that would be more of a personal decision.
Please reach out if you want some more help with setting up your blog and just questions in general. Just email me and I will get right back to you!
